This is a session I did with one of my dear friends, Shannon, and her daughter, B. I wanted bright and colorful, filled with light. I had rented a Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8 lens (wide angle) and couldn’t wait to try it out during a child/family session. And I am SO happy with the results! Definitely one of my favorite lenses and next on my “wish list.” I love being able to get up close to the person I’m photographing. I’m somewhat of a quiet talker and like being close, so I can easily drop the camera and interact with the subjects, catching their attention, or just talking to lighten the mood and make it casual enough to capture natural moments (it’s also great for playing peek-a-boo w/ little ones). The other two lenses that I most often use are the 50 1.4G and the 24-70 2.8, both of which can put me a little too far from the subject (except when I’m at 24mm w/ the one lens). I don’t like having to yell or be loud – it makes me feel awkward for some reason. And it’s weird because I don’t think there’s THAT much difference in the distance, maybe it’s just me, lol. I also love the slight distortion w/ the wide angle at 14mm. I love that it accentuates B’s childlike features. It’s playful and natural at the same time. Can’t wait to get my hands on this lens for every session! I also adore this session because Shannon’s smile is infectious and the connection between Shannon and B is palpable. I love watching them interact. Xoxo
